Many heroes have fallen to ALS, including baseball legend Lou Gehrig. The affliction causes critical nerve cells to die, leading to widespread and devastating loss of vital muscle tissue. ALS leaves the mind generally unaffected but inexorably takes away the ability to speak, walk and do everything we take for granted. Paralysis and death may come just a few years after diagnosis.

Augie and his wife, Lynne

Now a new hero, fitness pioneer Augie Nieto, is fighting his own courageous battle against ALS. After receiving his ALS diagnosis in 2005, Augie decided to transform despair into hope. He and his wife Lynne allied themselves with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to create MDA’s Augie’s Quest. This aggressive initiative is now making history by funding fast-track, innovative research to conquer ALS once and for all.

Oakley is honored to support this effort. With every sale of this special edition HIJINX® sunglass, we are providing $20 to MDA’s Augie’s Quest, creating a vision of hope in the fight against ALS.

Each frame is highlighted with a custom rendition of the MDA’s Augie’s Quest logo, and a matching MICROCLEAR™ bag is included for lens cleaning and eyewear storage. We took all the music, art and life that inspires Oakley athletes, distilled it into clean and uncomplicated style, and crystallized the attitude into HIJINX®. A comfortably lightweight O MATTER® frame, it gives you the clarity of HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS® (HDO®) with patented innovations like XYZ OPTICS® for razor sharp vision at every angle of view.

This special edition is enhanced with Black IRIDIUM® lens coating for balanced light transmission in bright sun. Glare reduction is 99.9%, thanks to Oakley polarization that optimizes vision by eliminating the haze and distortion common to ordinary polarized lenses.

I pray that a cause and cure for this horrible disease can be found in my lifetime. I lost my husband to ALS 9 years ago, and have recently gotten engaged again. My fiance bought me the Augie sunglasses this week. What a thoughtful gift, for a excellent cause.

I lost my father to ALS this past May. He fought the disease honorably for three years after his diagnosed. The disease robbed him from doing the things he loved in life such as spending time out on the water with his family and working on his boat. I lost my dad at the age of 19. He is greatly missed everyday.

My beautiful Mother passed away on April 27, 2009 from this brutal disease. She was a wonderful, kind spirit. Thank you Augie and Oakley for coming together to fight ALS. Together we can all make a difference.
